ALICIA HAS SPOKEN ON GLOBAL STAGES ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF CHANGE

Alicia’S Keynote Entitled GetIT Right The First Time Will Impact Your Audience And Teach Them How To:

THINK AHEAD OF THE GAME

Change management problems start when you do not take the time to GetIT Right The First Time. Fundamental aspects and considerations are often lost or missed.

The result is unnecessary project delays and precious time lost forever.

STAY AHEAD OF THE GAME

Growing up, I learned many life lessons from my Dad. My dad taught me how to play chess. He taught me how to think ahead of the game- think ten moves ahead Alicia ( I hear his voice echoing in my head) if you intend to win. There are no second places in a game of chess; you either win or lose. The same applies to the game of implementing successful change. People will either say the project was delivered well or it wasn’t.

My Dad’s voice often replays itself in my head, you can’t afford to lose focus Alicia. Losing focus only leads to stagnation, loss of clarity and reworking your strategy.

DISCOVERY

Take the time to work through the discovery. Start by asking an entire series of questions – with the right people in the room, once you start asking questions you will start to build a working coalition that will help provide much needed answers to what you thought you already knew.

My view is, there are 2 types of discovery. The first is very important when capturing and defining the scope of the program of work that needs to be undertaken.

Discovery 1. Starts with asking the right questions of the right people. For example, is the change linked to a strategic outcome, if so, what is it? If not, why not? What size change is it? How do we know? Is there a dedicated sponsor on the project, if not why? Do we have the funding, do we have the right amount of funding? How do we know?

Discovery 2. Business analysts and systems analyst unpack the current state to where there is a shared understanding of the current state. From there and in coloration with impacted stakeholders determine what needs to start, what needs to be introduced and what needs to be stopped to realise full benefits.
